There are so many theatres and theatre companies all over the Upstate that you won’t have to travel far to see a quality show. From big-time Broadway to indie and avant-garde performances; the Upstate is a breeding ground for amazing theatre. There are even shows your kids will enjoy. Greenville Little Theatre
Located on Heritage Green in Greenville. The Greenville Little Theatre offers a traditional Theatre experience. Their shows tend to play to a classic audience. This season’s shows include: Wait Until Dark, It’s A Wonderful Life, Oliver!, Leaving Iowa, and Catch Me If You Can. Find out more information about the Greenville Little Theatre.
Spartanburg Little Theatre
Spartanburg Little Theatre shares a space with the Chapman Cultural Center in downtown Spartanburg. Their shows can be slightly off the beaten path, but still deliver the classic Theatre experience. Their 2018-2019 season plays include: Calendar Girls, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Peter the Starcatcher, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and a special summer run of The Rocky Horror Show. Clemson Little Theatre
Located in Pendleton, Clemson Little Theatre weaves children’s Theatre into their season schedule. Originally started by the friends of Clemson, the Theatre eventually moved to its current home at Pendleton Playhouse. The 2018-2019 season includes Disney’s Peter Pan Jr., A Seussified Christmas Carol, Doublewide, Texas, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Rated P for Parenthood. Oconee Community Theatre
Oconee Community Theatre – Oconee Community Theatre is a non-profit whose main goal is to help…well…the community of Oconee. SC Children’s Theatre (Greenville)
As the name would suggest, SC Children’s Theatre is focused on bringing theatre to younger audiences. That being said, their shows also appeal to kids of all ages (that’s you, parents). The Children’s Theatre has two different series of shows. Their mainstage season consists of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, A Year With Frog & Toad, and Elephant & Piggie’s: We Are In A Play. There will also be a second stage series with The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Click, Clack, Boo, The Littlest Angel, and Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. What does it mean when “Jr.” is with a show title?
We asked Melanie Ann Wiliford founder and producer at Courageous Crossings Productions, LLC to shed some light on what exactly a Jr. version of a show is. “A Junior edition of a popular show (often a family-friendly musical), indicates the original script and score have been edited and adjusted to suit young performers and usually have a running time of about an hour.”
Centre Stage (Greenville)
Centre Stage is all about producing diverse Theatre. They are also producing shows year round. Some of the shows at Centre Stage this season are One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, World Builders, Laughing All The Way, Shaboom, Shaboom, and Doubt. Greenwood Community Theatre
Greenwood has a burgeoning art scene, and that extends to the Greenwood Community Theatre. Their 2018-2019 season will present The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, It’s A Wonderful Life, Charlie Brown Christmas, Oklahoma!, My Son Pinocchio, Seussical the Musical, Dixie Swim Club, The Addams Family, and Madeline’s Christmas. Mill Town Players (Pelzer)
The Mill Town Players of Pelzer put on their productions in the Pelzer Auditorium. Their 2018-2019 series will consist of Romeo & Juliet, Forever Plaid, Crimes of the Heart, Seussical Jr., Pump Boys and Dinettes, A Pelzer Gospel Homecoming, First Baptist of Ivy Gap, Classic Country, Annie Get Your Gun, and A Broadway Cabaret. The Newberry Community Players are closely linked with the Ritz Theatre.
