Sometimes the best outdoor destinations require a little more effort than we are accustomed to. Sure, we can all follow the signs to Jones Gap and Table Rock State Parks and find a nice place to park and some restrooms for a pit stop before we start our hike. Sometimes, though, a more unbridled version of Mother Nature calls and in these cases we just need to know where to look.

Disc golf enthusiasts in the Upstate have no shortage of options to choose from in order to enjoy the sport that has been growing in popularity since the 1970s. As far back as the 1920s, people have been throwing discs at targets in a golf-like game, but it wasnt until the late 1960s, when a California parks and recreation supervisor petitioned Wham-O, the makers of the Frisbee, to supply discs for a tournament, that the seeds of the sport were planted.
Is musical talent a matter of nature or nurture? It is hard to say, but we are just glad the the guys of Great Peacock are full of talent. You’ll be glad to when they come to The Radio Room on Thursday with all of their feathers on display. This week also sees world renowned pianist Emile Pandolfi play in Greenville. In the last edition of Fresh Air Friday I told you about Poinsett Bridge with a promise to follow up with the story of another historic Upstate bridge this week. That bridge is, of course, Campbell’s Covered Bridge which has stood proudly in the Upstate since 1909 and is now the centerpiece of a park owned and operated by Greenville Rec.
Pendleton, located in Anderson, is filled with historic places. It is home to one of the largest National Historic Districts in the country. Pendleton’s proximity to other points of interest makes it the perfect hub for an exciting day trip.
