When I first heard of the farm-to-table movement, I was certain that this was going to be just another trend. As a lover of all things bad for me, I was sure that the emphasis on “clean eating” would negate any sense of appeal to my taste buds. I can officially say I have been proven wrong. Farm Fresh Fast broke down my wall of skepticism and made me rethink where I’m getting my food from.
As soon as you walk into Farm Fresh Fast, you are immediately greeted by the quaint and homey farmhouse decor. I’m talking so cute, I wanted to take half of the stuff off the walls and run. Their front-of-house staff was warm and welcoming and was there to answer any questions that we had. Prior to my visit there, I had checked out their menu so that I could prepare myself for what I was going to order. I still took about five minutes to decide on what I wanted, though, because everything sounded SO good. Finally, I landed on the build-your-own bowl, a farm-to-table twist on a burrito bowl that you’re likely to find at your favorite Tex-Mex joint.
The bowl was a great option for me because I was able to choose exactly which toppings I wanted to go in it (sometimes the controlling side of me takes over so this was a win). There are several different add-ons to choose from for your bowl. First, you select the size of protein you want – King (7 oz.) or Queen (4 oz.). I went with the Queen, naturally (you know the saying “you are what you eat”). From there, you get to choose from a list of proteins. I went with the ground turkey because I generally l choose it over beef (it’s healthier, right?). Next, you can choose from an array of carbohydrates. I selected the sweet potatoes because I typically enjoy them over a starchy red or white potato. Again, I tried to stick with the “healthier” alternatives. These guys were to die for – super sweet, perfectly roasted, and the skin was still on them, creating the perfect texture. You then get to pick your seasonal vegetable of choice. I chose the sautéed zucchini over the carrots because I’m just that kind of person. Finally, you have the option of topping your bowl with an egg. I went with mine over-easy because I love a runny yolk. It’s the perfect topping to an already protein-heavy dish.
My husband ordered the “Almost Heaven” burger which seriously lived up to its name. It was juicy and flavorful and was the perfect size to leave just about anyone satisfied and smiling.
Overall, I really enjoyed this meal. I liked the variety of flavor and texture: it wasn’t dull and flavorless, and yet the flavors did not compete to over-power one another. Not to mention the portion size – it was just the right amount of food for me to walk out of there full but not stuffed. There’s nothing worse than leaving a restaurant feeling like you’re going to explode.
Another great thing about Farm Fresh Fast is they offer a meal-prep service. You can subscribe to a meal plan (5, 10, or 15 meals), and then select which meals you would like. Then, you can just head over to their location and pick up your already-prepared meals. It’s that simple. For all of you working moms out there – this is for you.
After much skepticism, my eyes have been opened and I am a new person. Farm-to-table is actually really great. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Farm Fresh Fast and look forward to making it a regular spot.
