Euphoria 101: Take A Bite Of The Upstate
Euphoria 2017 is almost upon us, and In The Know Upstate is so very ready to get our grub on. This year’s event runs from September 21-24 and brings something for everyone – from Michelin Star-level dinners and wine seminars to classrooms teaching the art of BBQ and biscuits. (Did we mention there’s even a bike ride that ends with mouth watering food??) With so much to choose from, how do you know where to start? We’re here to help. ITK partnered with the Euphoria team to bring you the ultimate guide to the ultimate food fest. No matter your foodie level or price point, we’ve got the Euphoria experience you’ve been craving.
For the Seeker of Good Deals
Do you want a lot of delicious food and tasty adult beverages? Like a lot, a lot? Then do we have an event for you! Friday’s Feast By The Field brings the goods in a major way, with unlimited samples from over 35 restaurant and beverage purveyors, plus demonstrations from expert Chefs to help you up your cooking game. To make it an even sweeter deal, they’re throwing in an open-air Craft Beer Garden and live music. Euphoria clearly knows how to kick off a weekend right. The action takes place at Fluor Field, and only costs $75 (yes, really).
For the Cycling Enthusiast
Greenville is a cycling town – bicycle shops are everywhere and not a day goes by where you don’t see cyclists on the road working on their fitness. Euphoria offers two events for those who love to see the world from your favorite bike saddle. For intermediate and advanced riders, the Cycling with George Hincapie event on Thursday lets you “bike with the best of ’em.” Enjoy a 30-mile ride with the cycling legend (once you’re done being star struck), then kick back at the picturesque Restaurant 17 for drinks and lunch prepared by Chef Graves.
For those looking for a more leisurely ride, Taste of the Trail is your jam. Join other foodies for an active afternoon ride along our beloved Swamp Rabbit Trail, from Swamp Rabbit Café to the Traveler’s Rest Farmer’s Market Pavilion. When you’re done, you can rest your weary legs while you enjoy a fabulous lunch by Coastal Crust food truck and other local TR favorites. Note that tickets don’t include the bike rental, so be sure to reserve yours from the Swamp Rabbit Trail Bike Shop. Oh, and you might just see the ITK team hilariously struggling to keep up on a tandem bike – so that just adds to the fun.
For Those Who Crave Knowledge
Many people are surprised to hear that Euphoria offers a bevy of informative, and affordable, classes to help you sharpen those culinary skills. Tickets are still available for three Saturday classes, and if you’re like us, you’ll wish you could take them all. For only $35, you can choose between learning how to BBQ from some serious pitmasters in the On Cue Classroom, how to expertly pair chocolate and liqueur in the Sweet Dreams are Made of These Classroom, or how to bake heavenly biscuits in the Art of the Biscuit Classroom. After you learn from the best, you’ll be ready for the next rounds of Top Chef auditions, so it’s a hard deal to beat.
For the Budding Sommelier
The right amount of wine can make anything funny. Luckily, the wine seminars of Euphoria already pack a punch(line). TV personality and certified sommelier Laurie Forster will host the wine class of your dreams in this “edgy and off-beat” seminar sure to bring the laughs… and the buzz. There are two times and two topics to choose from – Tour Italy or Old World vs. New World. In Tour Italy, you’ll taste your way across Italy with six wines from different regions of the country. While enticing your palate, you’ll enjoy a relaxed wine education to entice your brain as well. In Old World vs. New World you will participate in a blind taste test to determine who reigns supreme while learning some closely held, and hilarious, secrets of the wine industry. Wine + laughs = Saturdays to live for. Tickets for these seminars are selling out fast, so you’ll want to get yours now!
For Seekers of A “Big Easy” Time
Good southern cuisine is sought out far and wide. Not only does it nourish your body, it nourishes your soul (our souls are well nourished here at ITK). If yours needs some TLC in the form of down home cookin’, then you’ll want to head to Euphoria’s Big Easy Bash at Travelers Rest Trailblazer Park. A new event this year, the Big Easy Bash unites 10 talented chefs from New Orleans, Greenville and beyond, then adds in food trucks, craft beer, cocktails, and a dessert cart just in case you have a little room left over somehow. We heard there will even be some French Rosé, and we all know that’s way better than a cherry on top. With a jazz band ready to help you dance your work week away, the Big Easy Bash is your ticket to a Saturday to remember – and all for only $85.
For the Historian Foodie
It is no secret that Greenville has a rich and diverse past, but most of us don’t know the history that made the city into the great burg it is today. Euphoria can help. The Old Stories & a New Menu event takes you on a walking tour of Downtown Greenville where you’ll learn about the history of the city from local art historian John Nolan. Your tour ends at the uber-popular Italian eatery Jianna for a multi-course wine lunch courtesy of three local chefs that have their chopping knives on the pulse of foodies everywhere. From the chic décor of Jianna’s second-floor lair to the history tour, this is one event you won’t want to skip.
For the Whole Family
In the south, brunch is more than a meal – it’s an event. So, it comes as no surprise that Euphoria host a brunch worthy of a dedicated spot on your closely guarded Sunday agenda. You are not going to want to miss Sunday Brunch: Fired Up. We’re talking brunch BBQ by eight esteemed pit masters, traditional brunch items from over 15 local and regional restaurants, live music from Crooked Pine, AND Bloody Marys and mimosas. You can even bring the kids, as this is the only family friendly event of the weekend. Now, that’s a Sunday Funday we can get behind.
