Despite outward appearances, everyone has a story to tell. David Hawkins and his mother, Deborah, were kind enough to share David's story with us and to share some information about a topic most are too afraid to ask about. David is HIV positive, but he doesn't let that define his life. He is here to help educate us and the community about some misconceptions about HIV and the resources available in the Upstate. Be sure to find out more about David by reading our spotlight.
The cycle of addiction can be a hard one to break, but luckily there is help. The Turning Point of Greenville and Harmony House are programs that play a pivotal role in the lives of people struggling with addiction. We had the honor to sit down with some of the individuals who have gone through the program and have come out on the other side. Their stories will move you.
euphoria Greenville is known for its delicious gourmet food. Despite all of the stresses that go into planning a festival, Morgan and her team try to let things happen organically. As much as it is a good time for those who attend euphoria, the organizers want to make sure the chefs have just as much of a good time.
While euphoria Greenville features incredible wine, food, and entertainment, many people don’t realize it is also a nonprofit. Focusing on food, kids, and the arts, euphoria aims to fund entire projects that enrich lives. In addition to the nonprofit, euphoria also aims to have a large economic impact on Greenville.
euphoria is a yearly food, wine, and music festival that takes place in Greenville. The festival is the brainchild of Carl Sobocinski and Edwin McCain. Philanthropy and shining a positive light on Greenville served as the crux for the development of the festival.
Trees Greenville has a pretty simple threefold mission: plant, promote, protect. “We plant trees in parks, schools, neighborhoods, and green spaces,” Teachey says. “We promote the benefits of trees, and we protect trees by teaching people how to properly plant, care for, and maintain them.”
The Harmony House is a women’s shelter that is nearing completion in Downtown Greenville. The project is born of passion and a need to help the women of the Upstate suffering from addiction. The project aims to de-stigmatize addiction and to help these women integrate back into society.
The Turning Point is an addiction recovery program that aims to change men’s lives. Many of the men who finish the program find fulfillment by working for The Turning Point. The Turning Point aims to destigmatize addiction by imbuing it with humanity and compassion.
